From Dan's New Book
Anyone can be imprisoned.
Anyone can find freedom.
-Billy Simpson

This book is about prisoners. It is for anyone who feels trapped by emotions, circumstances, or relationships from which they cannot escape. The stories of Family Constellations in prison and the philosophy of healing that is explored in this book show that peace of mind, reconciliation, and forgiveness are always within reach.

Again and again we saw unexpected connections across space and time: the love between children and parents endures, literally piercing brick walls and razor wire enclosures; murder inexorably bonds the fate of the victim to the fate of the killer; lovers can touch each other, even after one of them dies.

Acceptance of what occurs during and after Constellations does not ask for faith or belief in a supernatural universe. To comprehend these insights does require a willingness to validate subjective perception and admit that our scientific understanding of human minds and complex systems is incomplete.

I am writing this newsletter en route to a 3-day seminar at Marta Thorsheims's Hellinger Instituttet Norge in Oslo, Norway. The following week, July 11-12, I will be in Berlin, leading a Responsibility and Healing seminar.

Rosie in IcelandMy traveling companion is my 14 year-old daughter Rosie.  We will find plenty time for adventure and exploration between my Constellation times.

Between the fun, I sit with those who bear the heaviest burdens: murderers in prison, children and grandchildren of Nazi perpetrators or Jewish Holocaust victims. These are never "Holocaust Constellations" or "Murder Constellations."  I always begin with a real person and a real issue. They are "Healing Constellations" for that person and their loved ones.

Even more frequently, I sit with ordinary people who confront the ordinary difficulties of life. I only ask, "What do you need help with today?" Often, the response is one of  many common issues, "My marriage is in trouble," "I am worried about my child," or "I cannot forgive my mother for what she did."  Sometimes, I hear one-of-a-kind situations, "I have had serious accidents on the same date three times," or "I cannot leave my house without worrying whether it is on fire."

Regardless of the issue, I always begin with the assumption that if I am being asked, it means that the issue is older than the person.  It is not about what happened to you. The question is: what happened to somebody in the family before you were born?

Inevitably, the Constellation reveals a surprising answer that lies beyond what we already know or can feel in our hearts. There is a healing image that changes the issue for good.

If you are carrying a heavy burden or problem that is not getting any lighter, call me at 781-718-7158 or email me at Dan@hiddensolution.com. You will be amazed at what one session with me can accomplish.
Responsibility and Healing in Berlin: "Who Among Us Dares to Console?" I Do.

Berlin, Germany

I come to Berlin as a Jewish American to work with Germans. This event is meant for those who feel a special burden, have children with emotional problems, or themselves suffer from eating disorders, anxiety, failed relationships, loneliness, depression, and fears.  Of course, I work with equal care with those from either Jewish, German, or mixed families.

As the only Jewish-American facilitator who works regularly in Europe, I present a new twist to the 'Classic Constellation'. Using imagination and gentle humor, I help find healing solutions to seemingly impenetrable problems.  Even extremely difficult cases reveal the universal principles which ultimately lead towards healing and peace.

Often, the most startling revelations in these Constellations have nothing to do with war, ethnic conflict, or religious differences.  Instead, they may revolve around a woman abandoned to a loveless existence, a man who imploded into silent sorrow, or a child who survived amongst others who lost everything.

Family Constellations with lifers in prison transforms the meeting room into what volunteer Ariane Cherbuliez calls, "The most sacred space I know." These prisoners are society's ultimate outcasts.  Ironically, to be in their presence is to be touched by grace.

The stories of Constellations in prison are not about prisoners.  They are about human beings who struggle to come to terms with the facts and feelings of their existence.  Through our experiences, each found a way to bear the weight of sorrow and responsibility with more dignity.  We repaired broken relationships, found ways to heal and to forgive ourselves and others.

When an inmate or volunteer asks for a Constellation, they bring concrete issues and real-life concerns.  The process helps them reach a healing movement that unfolds in the ordinary dimension of day-to-day life and relationship.

We look for who has been lost, separated, or forgotten.  Everyone has a part of themselves that cannot find peace or come to rest. In the silence of our dreams, in our restless thoughts, in the darkest places in our hearts, the terrible experiences that befell our fathers and mothers, grandparents, aunts and uncles live on inside us. For most of us, they appear as nightmares or panic attacks, forgetfulness or sorrow.  For the men in prison, they emerged as violent crimes.

These dark influences also motivate our kindness and compassion, propelling us to be healers, peacemakers, and teachers. Billy Simpson told us once how the spirit of his murder victim compelled him to save a correction officer's life during a violent prison riot.

We honor our ancestors' losses and soothe their pain by embracing that we are the living fruit of their sacrifices. They grieve when we suffer. They bless us when we embrace life and love well.
